[Exclusive] Mobile Year-End Tax Settlement Also Possible with Kakao Certificate

[Exclusive] Mobile Year-End Tax Settlement Also Possible with Kakao Certificate

This year, year-end tax settlement will be possible via mobile using private certificates such as Kakao. With the ability to use the National Tax Service's 'Mobile Hometax (Sontax)' through private certificates, the year-end tax settlement process is expected to become more convenient.

According to the IT industry and the National Tax Service on the 8th, Sontax plans to introduce private certificate login functionality for this year's year-end tax settlement. A National Tax Service official stated, "We are preparing to incorporate the private certificate function by the end of December this year so that it can be used for the year-end tax settlement in January next year." Previously, private certificates were only available on PCs.

Since early this year, the National Tax Service has simplified the year-end tax settlement procedure by introducing private certificates and mobile functionality. With the legal abolition of the public certificate's status, year-end tax settlement using private certificates such as Kakao, KB Kookmin Bank, NHN Payco, Korea Information Certificate (Samsung PASS), and PASS has become possible. Additionally, wage earners can handle the entire year-end tax settlement process via mobile. Income and tax deduction data for year-end tax settlement can be received through Sontax, and companies can prepare, modify, and submit wage income payment statements and other documents.

However, private certificate use was only possible on PCs and could not be used for mobile year-end tax settlement functions. But with this improvement, year-end tax settlement will be possible on mobile using private certificates. Users can log in with existing joint certificates or private certificates on the National Tax Service Sontax application (app), then view and download income and tax deduction data.

Meanwhile, with the introduction of private certificates to government and public institution sites including year-end tax settlement, competition in the IT industry is intensifying. In particular, Naver and Kakao are engaged in a behind-the-scenes battle to dominate the market. Kakao currently holds an advantage by securing government and public institution sites first. There are more than 30 government and public institution sites where Kakao certificates can be used. Naver, which entered the market later, is closely pursuing. A Naver official said, "Recently, Naver certificates have been implemented in the National Health Insurance Service and Seoul City's e-Tax system," adding, "We are currently negotiating to implement it for Hometax year-end tax settlement as well."
