[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 7th that it will partially open a 5.6km section of the Changwon Dong-eup~Bonggang road construction project, from Hwamok Intersection in Hwayang-ri, Dong-eup, Changwon City to Bonggang Intersection in Bonggang-ri, starting at midnight on the 10th.

The Dong-eup-Bonggang local road construction connects 10.1 km from Yongjam-ri, Dong-eup, Uichang-gu, Changwon to Bonggang-ri. The project, which began in August 2008 with a total budget of 211.8 billion KRW, is scheduled for completion in August 2022.

This section includes Junam Reservoir, a representative ecological and cultural tourist site in Changwon, attracting many visitors. Due to the narrow road width, nearby residents have been exposed to traffic accident risks.

With the priority opening of the Changwon Dong-eup Hwayang-ri~Bonggang-ri section (4 lanes, two-way), the travel distance will be reduced by 2 km, significantly improving accessibility between Dong-eup, Changwon and Changnyeong and Miryang. It is also expected to enhance safety for residents of villages near the existing Local Road No. 30.

Heo Dong-sik, Director of Urban Transportation, said, "We are opening the completed section first to provide early convenience to road users," adding, "We will proceed with the Dong-eup~Bonggang road construction as planned and contribute to regional development with the full opening next August."
