Assemblyman Joo Chul-hyun: "I Will Make Greater Efforts to Secure Budget for a Pleasant and Safe Living Environment in Yeosu"
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Joo Cheol-hyun, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced that the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Jeollanam-do has been selected as the site for a 2 billion KRW-scale ‘Fine Dust Blocking Forest’ project by the Korea Forest Service.
According to Representative Joo Cheol-hyun, on the 7th, Jusam-dong and Junghung-dong areas where the Yeosu National Industrial Complex is located were finally confirmed as the target sites for the fine dust blocking forest project, with a total project cost of 2 billion KRW, including 50% national funding. In the project area, a one-hectare fine dust blocking forest will be created annually from next year until 2023.
Earlier in September, 4.5 hectares in Yedong-ri and Johwa-ri areas of the Yulchon Industrial Complex were also selected as the site for a fine dust blocking forest project with a total investment of 4.5 billion KRW. This project will create a multi-layered forest in the green belt within Yulchon 1 Industrial Complex over one year starting next year to block fine dust.
The ‘Fine Dust Blocking Forest’ project, initiated by the Korea Forest Service in 2019, is a project that suppresses the spread of fine dust by creating dense forests using tree species with excellent reduction capabilities around fine dust sources and residential areas.
Additionally, areas near Jinnam Elementary School and Jonggo Elementary School in Yeosu were selected for the Korea Forest Service’s ‘Safe Green Forest for Children’ project, each receiving an investment of 50 million KRW.
The ‘Safe Green Forest for Children’ project, which started this year, targets child protection zones by removing surrounding fences, implementing road diets, and maintaining sidewalks and street greenery to separate pedestrian paths from roadways by creating forests.
With the recent continuous occurrence of traffic accidents in child protection zones and the rising public interest in creating a safe traffic environment, two elementary schools in Yeosu were selected as project sites.
Representative Joo Cheol-hyun said, “Following the fine dust blocking forest project on the abandoned Jeolla Line railway in Yeosu, which involved a total investment of 7 billion KRW, four sites in Yeosu were consecutively selected for the Korea Forest Service’s urban forest creation projects this year alone. As a member of the National Assembly’s Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee, I feel a great sense of accomplishment. I will continue to strive to discover necessary projects and secure budgets so that Yeosu citizens can live in a pleasant and safe environment.”
