Woorinet Installs 5,500 Autonomous Driving Record Modems in Jeju Island... "Nationwide Expansion"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Woorinet is set to accelerate its business for 5G Internet of Things (IoT)-based autonomous driving components.

Woorinet, a company specializing in optical communication networks, announced on the 7th that its digital tachograph (DTG) modem for autonomous driving (C-ITS), the ‘WD-L400K,’ has been installed in over 5,500 units in the Jeju area through KT. Starting from Jeju, the company plans to supply autonomous driving components nationwide through a consortium.

Woorinet’s DTG modem is a communication module operating on the LTE Cat.4 KT network allocated domestically for IoT-based vehicle-to-thing communication. Through this module, vehicles wirelessly collect data and process it internally. The Jeju autonomous driving (C-ITS) operation primarily uses the Wave network (5.9GHz). Since the Wave network coverage in Jeju is not extensive, LTE is also integrated with all autonomous driving (C-ITS) networks. This technology is a network-based vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology and is expected to evolve into a V2X-like technology.

V2X (Vehicle to Everything) is a technology where vehicles use communication networks such as IoT to exchange or share key information with surrounding vehicles, roads, buildings, and more.

Choi Hojung, Director of Woorinet’s IoT Business Division, said, “We plan to supply the autonomous driving digital tachograph modem ‘WD-L400K’ nationwide, starting from the Jeju area. As the V2X market gradually expands, our company’s autonomous driving component business is also expected to grow.”
