[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] A feasibility study will be conducted on the Odorae Tunnel (Guyang-Wolpyeong), one of the long-awaited projects in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam.

According to Hamyang-gun on the 7th, Gyeongnam Province has established and announced the "2021-2025 Gyeongnam Province Road Construction and Management Plan," which includes local road projects to be promoted over the next five years.

The goal of the road construction and management plan was set as "expanding the road network to strengthen regional competitiveness," with basic directions including balanced regional development, minimizing environmental damage, preventing traffic accidents, and ensuring safety, referencing the opinions of 18 cities and counties and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's national road network comprehensive plan.

This road construction and management plan includes three areas: new construction (11 projects), expansion (7 projects), and feasibility studies (4 projects). Among them, the Odorae Tunnel project in Hamyang-gun was included in the feasibility study category.

The Odorae Tunnel project covers a total section of 4.1 km, including a tunnel length of 1.8 km connecting Wolpyeong-ri in Hucheon-myeon and Guam-ri in Macheon-myeon, with an estimated total project cost of 92.6 billion KRW.

In the previous road construction and management plan, the Odorae Tunnel ranked 45th in priority, but after several visits to Gyeongnam Province since 2018 to explain the necessity of the project, it was included among the 22 projects in this road construction and management plan. Compared to other cities and counties, it achieved the greatest results under absolutely unfavorable conditions such as insufficient traffic demand and economic feasibility (B/C) for the Odorae section of Local Road 1023.

A county official said, "The Odorae Tunnel section of Local Road 1023 is a steep and severely curved road section, and with its inclusion in the Gyeongnam Province road construction and management plan, not only can these issues be resolved, but it is also expected to contribute to balanced regional development and revitalization of the local economy by improving accessibility to Jirisan."
