Daeseo Singi and Songnim, Geumsan Cheongseok and Uduhang Fishing Port Facility Maintenance Conducted, Securing 24.5 Billion KRW in Project Funds
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 7th that Daeseo-myeon Singi·Songnim area and Geumsan-myeon Cheongseok Port have been selected as new target sites for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' 2023 Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, securing a total project cost of 24.5 billion KRW including national subsidies.
Goheung-gun has been selected for the Fishing Village New Deal project for four consecutive years, signaling a positive outlook for fishing village revitalization and increased resident income.
The Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project, a national policy project by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries implemented since 2019, modernizes essential infrastructure such as outdated piers in fishing villages and promotes specialized projects reflecting local characteristics to invigorate the regional economy. It is a community-based living SOC project supported with 70% of the project cost by national funds.
In 2022, the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project saw 187 applications from 54 cities, counties, and districts nationwide, with a high competition rate of 3.74 to 1. After written, on-site, and comprehensive evaluations, 50 sites were finally selected as project locations.
Ahead of the project site application, Goheung-gun held local council meetings, customized advisory meetings with experts, and visited related institutions, resulting in the selection of three sites through meticulous preparation.
Goheung-gun will invest a total of 15 billion KRW in the Daeseo Singi·Songnim area to renovate fishing port facilities, establish a Hanmaeum joint workshop and processing center, and create fishermen’s rest areas. In Geumsan Cheongseok Port, 8.15 billion KRW will be invested to expand the pier, add a wharf, and pave village road pedestrian paths.
Governor Song Gwi-geun of Goheung-gun stated, “As Goheung is surrounded by the sea on three sides, we have carefully prepared for the application, achieving the great success of being selected for the project four years in a row.” He added, “We will lead efforts to improve the fishing village environment, which is the livelihood of residents, and modernize essential infrastructure to increase fishing productivity and income that local residents can feel.”
Meanwhile, Goheung-gun secured a total project cost of 62.7 billion KRW with 2 sites worth 10.5 billion KRW in 2019, 3 sites worth 22.8 billion KRW in 2020, 1 site worth 4.9 billion KRW in 2021, and 3 sites worth 24.5 billion KRW in 2022, increasing the total number of target sites to nine.
