[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, visited a senior household in Sangdae-dong, the site of the ‘Low-Income Housing Environment Improvement Project,’ on the 7th to check the progress and encourage the construction personnel.

The Low-Income Housing Environment Improvement Project targets households receiving basic national livelihood benefits, near-poverty households, and general low-income households. It is linked with the Korea Energy Foundation’s energy efficiency improvement project to improve the housing environment through wallpapering, flooring installation, bathroom repairs, and more.

Jinju City secured a project budget of 120 million won through the third supplementary budget this year and began promoting the project and recruiting beneficiaries from September. As of the end of November, housing environment improvements have been completed for 94 households. The average support amount is about 600,000 won per household.

Mayor Jo Gyu-il said, “Through the business agreement with the Korea Energy Foundation in June this year to improve energy and housing welfare for low-income groups, housing-vulnerable groups can now receive more systematic support.” He added, “We will strengthen attentive administration by listening to citizens’ voices on site and continue to expand support for housing environment improvements to ensure safe and convenient housing for vulnerable groups.”
