Kim Yong-bin, Chairman of Korea Technology and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction, "Will Establish Various Safety Processes"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Korea Technology, a KOSDAQ-listed company, announced on the 7th that its subsidiary Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction won the Grand Prize in the video category at the ‘2021 National Land Safety Competition (Construction Safety & Quality)’ held on the 17th of last month at KINTEX in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.

Kim Yongbin, Chairman of Korea Technology and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction, stated, “Many construction sites experience irreversible accidents due to minor negligence, but there are not many sites with established safety processes. Our company operates under the motto of safety first and has introduced many systems to carry out construction.”

He continued, “Accumulating such experience and know-how, we have achieved zero fatalities for three consecutive years and won four consecutive awards this year, including the National Land Safety Competition and the LH Competition. We will not be complacent and will do our best to proactively introduce safety processes at all sites implemented by Korea Technology or constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction to achieve zero fatalities for 10 years.”

Previously, this competition was hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the National Land Safety Management Institute to promote safety management, accident prevention, and safety awareness at construction sites through content.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction participated in the competition under the theme “Safety Together T.B.M.” T.B.M stands for Tool Box Meeting, which is a short meeting held before starting work at the site where workers gather to discuss risk factors, safety checks, and precautions.

Construction sites have a high risk of accidents due to falling objects, heavy equipment, and more. The Safety and Health Team of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Construction received high marks for effectively expressing these potential risks and prevention measures through video content.

On the 12th of last month, the company also received recognition for its technical skills by simultaneously winning two Excellence Awards in the construction management improvement field (safety) and quality improvement field (architecture) for the first time at the 2021 Construction VE (Value Engineering) Competition hosted by Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH), which aims to reduce costs during the construction phase while improving quality and functionality.
