[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] LG Electronics announced on the 7th that it is expanding MZ generation-tailored content by recently launching Kakao Webtoon, Kakao Entertainment's webtoon platform, on the new concept lifestyle screen LG StanbyME.
Among products based on smart TV operating systems, LG StanbyME is the first to directly install and provide the Kakao Webtoon application (app). Customers can use the service by clicking the Kakao Webtoon app on the home screen without a separate download. Users can enjoy webtoons by touching or swiping the 27-inch screen just like using a mobile device.
LG Electronics continues to expand the services and content of LG StanbyME. Equipped with webOS, the same platform as LG smart TVs, users can access various OTT services available on the latest LG TVs, including the free broadcast service LG Channels, Netflix, Disney+, and Watcha.
It also features a sharing tab function that connects with the latest Android-based smartphones via Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. By placing and fixing a smartphone on the provided mobile stand, users can utilize live broadcasts, video calls, video conferences, and online classes. LG Electronics plans to start supporting Apple AirPlay, which shares screens with iOS-based devices, through a software update scheduled for this month.
Jung Seonghyun, Head of Content Service at LG Electronics, said, "We will continue to provide a differentiated viewing experience by continuously loading various content that considers customer preferences."
