"‘5·18 Denial’ Bini-jwa No Jae-seung's Activities Comparable to Ilbe... Similar to Yoon Seok-yeol's Gaffe"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] The Democratic Party of Korea criticized Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, for recruiting the so-called 'Beanie Left' No Jae-seung as a co-chairman of the party's joint election countermeasures committee.

Kim Woo-young, spokesperson for the Democratic Party's election countermeasures committee, stated in a briefing on the 6th, "Every person they recruit has serious problems," and added, "(No) became known as the so-called 'Beanie Left' on SNS after giving a public speech supporting candidate Oh Se-hoon in April, and his SNS activities are comparable to Ilbe." The nickname 'Beanie Left' is known to be a combination of 'beanie,' a tight-fitting hat that No often wears, and 'bonjwa,' a term meaning a highly skilled person.

Kim further said, "No Jae-seung, in his 30s and recruited as a co-chairman of the joint election committee, has posted all kinds of hateful remarks, discriminatory incitements, and distorted historical views on his social media," adding, "He denied the May 18 Democratic Uprising and advocated for a 'zero regular employment era.' No's outrageous remarks closely resemble Yoon Seok-yeol's 'one gaffe a day' pattern."

Kim also pointed out, "Candidate Yoon himself has made gaffes such as 'Except for May 18, Chun Doo-hwan did well politically,' and 'If wages are the same, there is little difference between irregular and regular workers,'" and criticized, "Yoon Seok-yeol is welcoming No with open arms, even considering assigning him as the lead speaker for the party's platform and policy speeches. The public, having witnessed the resignation of problematic figures in the election committee, is left speechless."

In conclusion, Kim emphasized, "The Yoon election committee's insistence on recruiting No despite his outrageous remarks is not inadvertent but a deliberate choice," and stated, "The attempts to recruit Kim Sung-tae, Ham Ik-byeong, and No Jae-seung prove that the candidate is responsible for the personnel disasters. Candidate Yoon must apologize to the public first."

Meanwhile, No previously posted a video on his SNS in May claiming that "the May 18 Democratic Uprising could be seen as a riot." In July, he also posted an article related to a rally by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions along with a comment saying, "I have no objection to the police using live ammunition," which sparked controversy.
