[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A man in his 40s was arrested by the police on charges of abusing and killing 19 dogs he adopted in Gunsan, Jeonbuk.

The Gunsan Police Station announced on the 6th that they are investigating Mr. A (41) for violating the Animal Protection Act.

Mr. A is accused of adopting 19 dogs, including poodles, and cruelly torturing and killing them by methods such as submerging them underwater to suffocate or burning them with fire, then abandoning them in apartment flowerbeds.

According to the police investigation, Mr. A works at a public enterprise and was found to have adopted small dogs from all over the country and abused them. He buried the dead dogs in the flowerbed of the company housing where he lives. During the on-site inspection, the police discovered several dog carcasses.

It was reported that when previous owners asked, "Is the dog doing well?" Mr. A would evade by saying things like "The leash came off and it disappeared."

The police stated, "We are thoroughly examining the case from various angles."

This case came to light after one dog owner who had sent a dog to Mr. A posted on social media (SNS) that "I cannot get in touch with the adopter."

When multiple victims claimed on SNS that "I also cannot contact Mr. A after sending a dog for adoption," Cha Eun-young, the representative of Gunsan Street Cat Care, who found this suspicious, obtained a direct confession from Mr. A that "I killed all the poodles."

Afterward, Representative Cha reported Mr. A to the police, who then launched an investigation.

Representative Cha pointed out several peculiarities in this case, including ▲an obsession with a specific breed, poodles ▲a working person with a normal family ▲targeting adopted dogs rather than strays ▲burying them in the apartment where he lives ▲and sadistic tendencies of abusing after treatment.

She added, "This is a meticulously planned crime different from previous animal abuse cases," and urged, "Animal abuse must be punished severely."
