[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Students of Gwangju University (President Kim Hyuk-jong) are taking the lead in promoting the excellence of products from local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

According to Gwangju University on the 6th, 23 students belonging to the Regional Specialized Youth Trade Expert Training Project Group (GTEP) recently supported marketing activities for local partner companies at the 'International Food Expo' and the 'Home, Living & Household Goods Exhibition' held in Busan.

Additionally, four students participated in the 'Living Design Fair' held in Songdo, Incheon, promoting the excellence of the region’s specialized agricultural products and eco-friendly products, while conducting buyer consultations and on-site sales.

The Busan and Incheon expos, in which the Gwangju University GTEP Project Group participated, featured a total of 405 companies showcasing 607 booths presenting agricultural specialty foods, convenience foods, interior goods, IT appliances, textile products, and more to domestic and international buyers and consumers.

Seven local companies participated in this expo, including Bugak Village, Taebong Co., Ltd., Dawon Co., Ltd. (Jakwoldam), Gwangju Food Co., Ltd., Gamseong Co., Ltd., and Agricultural Corporation Kim Si-wol.

Among universities in the Gwangju area, Gwangju University is the only one selected for the 'Regional Specialized Youth Trade Expert Training Project (GTEP)' organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea International Trade Association, and has participated in 14 domestic expos with local SMEs just this year.

In particular, they have actively conducted online marketing activities for local SME products through global online shopping malls such as eBay and Shopee.

In January next year, four students plan to participate in the 'CES 2022 Consumer Electronics Show' held in the United States to support the development of overseas sales channels.

Lee Kyu-hoon, head of the Gwangju University GTEP Project Group, said, "Gwangju University is doing its best to enhance the global capabilities of students and youth and to nurture key talents needed by local SMEs," adding, "With the active support of the government and Gwangju City, we will continuously assist local SMEs in their domestic and international marketing activities."
