[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Port Authority (BPA) has completed the '2021 Large-Medium-Small Win-Win Smart Factory Construction Support Project.'
The project was carried out to resolve difficulties faced by small and medium manufacturing companies experiencing operational disruptions due to COVID-19-related work stoppages and remote work. It aims to add innovation to the production process by building smart factories through win-win collaboration between public institutions and small and medium enterprises.
The Busan Port Authority selected 12 small and medium manufacturing companies in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions through a public contest.
The authority established strategies through detailed company diagnoses and consulting by the Korea Standards Association and supported the introduction of smart factory technologies and systems.
The target companies built systems such as inventory measurement using radar sensors and MES (Manufacturing Execution System) for real-time production information management.
The companies' new technologies have resulted in reduced production time and inventory costs, as well as improved defect rates.
Kang Jun-seok, President of the Busan Port Authority, stated, “We will continue to promote co-prosperity policies to enable small and medium enterprises in the shipping and port sectors to achieve innovative growth.”
