Police Considering Applying Charges of Attempted Murder of a Family Member

A son who wielded a weapon against his mother, who was concerned about his obesity for health reasons, was arrested by the police.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] A man in his 30s who injured his mother in her 60s with a weapon after a conflict over his weight has been arrested by the police.

On the 6th, the Gyeyang Police Station in Incheon announced that they have arrested and are investigating Mr. A (30) on charges of special assault.

According to the police, Mr. A is accused of wielding a weapon at his mother, Ms. B (68), at their villa in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, around 8:50 p.m. the previous day, injuring her chest and wrist.

He committed the crime using a weapon found inside the house while his mother was riding an indoor bicycle. Mr. A, who weighs over 100 kg, had been in conflict with his mother, who was concerned about his health and urged him to control his diet.

Mr. A was arrested at the scene by police who responded to a report from his father. During the police investigation, Mr. A reportedly stated that he committed the act because he felt his mother was ignoring him.

The police are considering applying charges of attempted murder of a direct ascendant against Mr. A, believing he intended to kill his mother.
