Daekyo Cultural Foundation Holds Awards Ceremony for the 'Nunnoppi Children's Literature Contest'

Four Categories Including Children's and Youth Literature, Total of 82 Winners

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Daekyo Cultural Foundation announced on the 6th that it held the awards ceremony for the ‘29th Noonopi Children’s Literature Contest’.


The Noonopi Children’s Literature Contest was conducted in four categories: △Children’s Literature △Children’s Poetry △Youth Literature △Global. A total of 82 people received awards.


In the Children’s Literature category for both new and established writers, a total of five winners were selected: three in the fairy tale category and two in the picture book category. The grand prize in the fairy tale category was awarded to writer Kim Yeonjin for the work ‘The Child Who Sells Tears.’ The grand prize winner received a cash prize of 15 million KRW along with the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award.


Daekyo explained, “The grand prize-winning work features characters with distinct personalities and narrative realism, and above all, it left emotional sensitivity and resonance with young readers.” The excellence awards in the fairy tale category were given to writer Jeon Woojin for ‘The Young Hunter Goya’ and writer Jeong Hyunhye for ‘Not Crimson but Pink.’ In the picture book category, the grand prize went to writer Park Bora for ‘Stuck, Stuck.’


The excellence award in the picture book category was awarded to writers Shin Ami and Park Junyeop for ‘Ian Builds a Wonderful House!’ The grand prize-winning children’s literature works are given the opportunity to be published, and excellence award winners may also publish their works through consultation.


In the Children’s Poetry category, which solicited works from elementary school students, Oh Yena, a 5th grader at Wonsinhung Elementary School in Daejeon, won the grand prize. In the Youth Literature category, newly established last year, Park Suhyun, a 3rd-year student at Gangil Girls’ High School in Gangwon, received the grand prize and the Minister of Education Award for the prose work ‘Live.’


Additionally, in the Global category, grand prizes were awarded in the picture diary and writing sections: Anna Bian from China won the picture diary grand prize, and Rhythm Kai from India won the writing grand prize. The ‘Chaekbom Campaign,’ which awards books to the school that submitted the most children’s poems, was won by Yeongsin Elementary School in Daegu, receiving books worth 3 million KRW as a group award.


According to Daekyo, approximately 9,200 works were submitted for this year’s ‘29th Noonopi Children’s Literature Contest,’ representing about a 20% increase compared to the previous year.
