Assemblyman Yoon Jun-byeong "Jeongeup Naejang Reservoir Removed from National Park Zone"

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jae-gil] Representative Yoon Jun-byeong (The Democratic Party of Korea, Jeongeup-si·Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk) announced on the 5th that Naejang Reservoir has been removed from the National Park area.

With the enforcement of the notification on changes to the Naejangsan National Park area and plan, and changes to topographic maps (Ministry of Environment Notification No. 2021-236) effective from the 3rd, the removal of the Naejang Reservoir upstream and the planned site for Naejangsan Tourist Hotel from the Naejangsan National Park area has been confirmed.

Since his election, Representative Yoon has continuously collaborated with related organizations and developed rationale regarding the designation of the released area and the designation of alternative inclusion sites.

He has demonstrated proactive actions by traveling between the city and Sejong to explain to central government officials (Ministry of Environment, Korea Forest Service, etc.) the justification and necessity of removing the Naejang Reservoir from the National Park protected area.

The removal of the Naejang Reservoir from the National Park area establishes a core foundation for Jeongeup City’s priority initiative to develop into a rest and experience-oriented four-season resort city, making its significance and expected effects very substantial.

Along with the removal of the Naejang Reservoir from the National Park area, comprehensive tourism infrastructure is being established, including ▲ the Total Land development project around Naejang Reservoir ▲ the maintenance of Naejang commercial district ▲ construction of lodging facilities in the Naejang Resort complex ▲ promotion of a national ecological tourism site, which is expected to gain momentum as a foundation for Naejangsan’s leap into a four-season tourist destination by enhancing transportation accessibility and connectivity.

Representative Yoon said, “The long-cherished hope of Jeongeup citizens to develop Jeongeup as a four-season stay-type tourist destination centered on Naejangsan has finally borne fruit,” and added, “I thank all the citizens of Jeongeup who have united and supported this effort, as well as Mayor Yoo Jin-seop and Jeongeup city officials, National Park Corporation staff including Naejangsan Management Office Chief Joo Jae-woo, Ministry of Environment Director Hong Jeong-seop and Manager Bae Yeon-jin, and Korea Forest Service Deputy Director Nam Tae-heon for their hard work.”

He continued, “This is now a new beginning for Jeongeup’s re-advancement. We will prevent indiscriminate development and manage systematically the released Naejang Reservoir and tourism and recreation sites, creating a tourism hub in harmony with ecological parks. Along with this, we will build an ecological, cultural, and tourism foundation by linking Naejangsan Cultural Plaza, Yongsan Lake area, and Jeongeup downtown into a triangle.”
