[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Since the 'gradual recovery of daily life' began last month, the COVID-19 outbreak situation has rapidly worsened, resulting in more than 5,000 new confirmed cases on the 5th.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on that day, 5,128 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 473,034.


The number of new confirmed cases decreased by 224 compared to the previous day (5,352). On weekends, the number of tests tends to decrease, leading to fewer confirmed cases.


Compared to last Saturday's confirmed cases (3,925 cases announced on Sunday the 28th), there are 1,203 more cases. This is the first time that the number of confirmed cases on a Saturday has exceeded 5,000.


The number of new domestic confirmed cases has been around 5,000 for five consecutive days since the 1st, when it first surpassed 5,000 (5,123 cases).


The number of patients who died from COVID-19 is 43. This is 27 fewer than the record daily high of 70 deaths recorded the previous day.


The cumulative number of deaths is 3,852, with a domestic cumulative fatality rate of 0.81%.


The number of critically ill patients is 744, which is 8 fewer than the previous day. The number of critically ill patients has remained in the 700s for five consecutive days since the 1st (723 → 733 → 736 → 752 → 744).


The number of infections with the new COVID-19 variant, the Omicron variant, increased by 3, bringing the total to 12.
