Gwangju Seo-gu Fully Prepares for Implementation of 'Military Airport Noise Damage Compensation'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has formed a 'Military Noise Countermeasure Committee' composed of competent experts to ensure smooth operations regarding the determination and deliberation of compensation payments in preparation for the military airport noise damage compensation payment work to be implemented from next year. The committee held an appointment ceremony and a meeting.

According to Seo-gu on the 3rd, the meeting proceeded with the presentation of appointment letters to the committee members, the resolution of operational regulations regarding the future direction of committee operations, the election of executives, and guidance on the committee's role and the compensation payment schedule for next year.

The Seo-gu Military Noise Countermeasure Deliberation Committee will play a role in deliberating matters related to the determination of compensation recipients, compensation amounts, and objections by noise countermeasure area zones.

The Ministry of National Defense has been conducting a noise impact map survey to designate noise countermeasure areas following the enforcement of the Military Noise Compensation Act on November 27 last year.

Accordingly, the Seo-gu area measured on-site noise at a total of 15 locations in two rounds in November last year and May this year. Based on the measurement results, noise contour lines will be created, and noise countermeasure areas are scheduled to be designated and announced within this month.

The noise countermeasure areas are classified based on the aircraft noise evaluation unit WECPNL: 95 or above as Type 1, 90 or above but below 95 as Type 2, and 85 or above but below 90 as Type 3. A predetermined amount, applying reduction regulations depending on the zone, will be paid.

Applications and reception for compensation are expected to begin around January next year, and compensation payments are anticipated to be made around August next year after the committee's deliberation process.

A Seo-gu official stated, "We will do our best to prepare flawlessly for the compensation payment work to be implemented from next year and to ensure that the determination of compensation for residents in noise countermeasure areas proceeds smoothly through solid committee operations."
