Yoon Seok-yeol Directly Criticizes Lee Jae-myung for Apologizing Over 'Cho Kuk Incident'
"The Entire Democratic Party Should Bow and Beg for Forgiveness"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Regarding Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, apologizing for the former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk incident, Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, sharply criticized, saying, "Is it something that can be resolved by apologizing alone? The 'Cho Kuk incident' is something that not only candidate Lee but also the current ruling forces, including President Moon Jae-in, must apologize to the people for."
Earlier, on the morning of the 2nd, candidate Lee said at the Broadcast Journalists Club debate, "Regarding former Minister Cho, the Democratic Party has still been one of the roots of the problems for which it has been ignored and criticized by the public," and added, "Within the scope of what I can do, I sincerely apologize with a very humble attitude."
In response, candidate Yoon posted on his Facebook on the morning of the 3rd, "Do you truly feel responsible as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate for the Cho Kuk incident? Do you think the behavior of the administration and the Democratic Party at that time was wrong? If so, persuade President Moon to apologize to the people even now. Make the entire Democratic Party bow down and seek forgiveness," he urged.
Targeting candidate Lee, Yoon sharply criticized, "Unless you show that level of courage, your apology is not an apology. The 'Cho Kuk incident' is not something that can be resolved by apologizing alone," he said.

Meanwhile, candidate Yoon shifted the responsibility for the Cho Kuk incident to President Moon. He criticized, "In the fall of 2019, our society was divided between Gwanghwamun and Seocho-dong. The whole country was in agony. The aftereffects have not yet disappeared," and added, "At that time, many citizens were angry and shouted at the Blue House to withdraw the appointment of the minister from the perspective of fairness and common sense. However, the president remained silent."
