Jeonnam Province's First Introduction of Child Meal Card System

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 3rd that it will recruit affiliated stores for the Child Meal Card, which will be implemented from next year to provide various meals to children at risk of food insecurity, until the 15th.

The recruitment targets are general restaurants, marts, side dish stores, etc. registered as businesses within the jurisdiction. Interested businesses can apply by visiting the Child and Youth Division or the administrative welfare centers in their respective eup, myeon, or dong areas.

To resolve the inconvenience of limited and uniform meal support through existing lunchbox delivery, the city introduced the Child Meal Card for the first time in Jeollanam-do, allowing children to purchase food directly at affiliated stores.

The Child Meal Card provides meals at a unit price of 7,000 KRW per meal, and points are given monthly for use.

Additionally, children previously receiving support due to risk of food insecurity must submit meal card application documents to the administrative welfare center in their area of residence to receive the card and continue support.

An official from the Child and Youth Division stated, “The meal card was implemented for the convenience and nutritional improvement of the target children,” adding, “With the introduction of the meal card, it is expected that children will have a wider range of meal choices and an improved quality of life.”
