Small Business Association "Concerns Over Impact Due to Strengthened Quarantine Measures... Compensation for Losses Must Be Provided"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] The Korea Federation of Micro Enterprises announced on the 3rd that full compensation for losses must be provided as the government's strengthened quarantine measures are expected to cause damage.

Small Business Association "Concerns Over Impact Due to Strengthened Quarantine Measures... Compensation for Losses Must Be Provided"

In a statement released that day, the Federation claimed, "In a situation where micro enterprises are struggling due to a subdued social atmosphere and the disappearance of the year-end peak season, they are inevitably being pushed into a worse position with even greater sales damage caused by restrictions on the number of people and the expanded application of the quarantine pass."

The government announced a policy on the same day to reduce the allowed number of private gatherings to six people in the metropolitan area and eight people in non-metropolitan areas, and to expand the application of the quarantine pass to indoor multi-use facilities such as restaurants, cafes, academies, PC cafes, and study cafes.

The Federation stated, "Micro enterprises cannot hide their frustration over this policy, which was implemented less than a month after the phased daily recovery plan was put into effect," and added, "A comprehensive compensation plan corresponding to this must be established as a package according to the Loss Compensation Act."

They also added, "Considering the four-week long period of strengthened quarantine measures, the scope of loss compensation should be broadly expanded not only to directly ordered administrative businesses but also to related industries," and "The calculation of compensation must be conducted so that 100% of the sales loss damage can be fully compensated."

The Federation urged, "The government must immediately establish a plan to significantly expand support for electronic entry log installation costs, non-face-to-face fever checkers, hygiene and disinfection equipment, and supplies during the expanded implementation of the quarantine pass."
