Restoration of Four Illegal Cultivation Sites to Original State
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju-gun announced on the 3rd that it conducted an emergency administrative enforcement on the 2nd against four illegal cultivation sites totaling 4,500㎡ within the national river Mankyunggang river area, specifically from Hoepodaegyo Bridge at 15 Hali, Samnye-eup to Samnye Bridge.
More than 20 personnel, including disaster safety department staff and river monitors, along with three excavators and two dump trucks, were mobilized for the enforcement.
To prepare for any emergencies that might occur during the demolition process, over 20 personnel from three institutions including the police station, fire station, and health center participated to restore the illegal cultivation sites to their original state and remove the illegal crops.
This area has been subject to issues such as agricultural waste (waste vinyl) abandonment, illegal burning, and the application of compost and pesticides due to illegal cultivation within Mankyunggang, raising concerns about river environment and water pollution. Despite continuous restoration warnings and publicity, the sites had not been restored.
Wanju-gun had announced on the 24th of last month a public notice of the enforcement warrant delivery for sites where cultivators could not be identified.
Prior to this, in May, the section between Jangjabo and Haejeonbo of Mankyunggang, which includes the Sincheon Wetland, was designated and announced as a fishing prohibited area. Since February this year, four environmental cleanup personnel have been deployed until the end of the year to pick up trash in the river, making every effort to create an ecological environment in Mankyunggang.
