[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Hylium Industries (hereinafter Hylium) announced on the 3rd that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. company Chart Industries (hereinafter Chart) to establish a joint venture for the distribution and supply chain of liquefied hydrogen in Korea, as well as for the design and production of liquefied hydrogen trailers, along with related supply contracts.

The MOU includes an initial order for liquefied hydrogen trailers, and Hylium is expected to accelerate the supply of liquefied hydrogen trailers in the near future. The company plans to obtain government certifications, approvals, and registrations necessary for domestic supply of liquefied hydrogen trailers. Based on this, by producing liquefied hydrogen trailers designed and manufactured in compliance with domestic regulations, it is expected to expedite the establishment of the domestic liquefied hydrogen value chain.

Chart, which is building the domestic liquefied hydrogen supply chain together with Hylium, is a specialized company in industrial gases and clean energy solutions. It currently operates as part of the U.S. ‘Hydrogen Forward’ coalition, leading hydrogen development. By providing total supply chain solutions for liquefied gases, including initial engineering, services, and repairs, Chart is a leading company offering technologies, equipment, and services related to liquefied natural gas, hydrogen, biogas, and more.

Kim Seo-young, CEO of Hylium, explained, “The synergy will be maximized when Hylium’s experience and know-how as a leading liquefied hydrogen company in the domestic market in terms of technology development, expertise, regulations, and certifications combine with the technological capabilities of Chart Industries, a global leader in hydrogen technology.” She added, “Based on this, we expect to lead the establishment of the domestic liquefied hydrogen ecosystem.” She also stated, “Starting with this MOU, we plan to maintain a strong partnership with Chart Industries and explore various business opportunities.”

Jill Evanko, CEO of Chart, said, “It is meaningful to collaborate with Hylium Industries, a recognized leader in the liquefied hydrogen field in Korea. By combining Chart’s decades of experience in designing and manufacturing hydrogen trailers supplying clean energy solutions worldwide with Hylium Industries’ expertise in technology development, regulations, certifications, and business opportunity development in the Korean market, our capabilities will be further strengthened.”
