Sejong City Secures 1.2 Trillion Won in National Budget for Next Year... Including Establishment of Sejong Police Agency

[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City has secured a government budget of 1.2 trillion won for next year.

On the 3rd, the city announced that it has finalized a total government budget of 1.1965 trillion won for next year, including 403.8 billion won for the Administrative City Construction Agency budget (special account) approved at the National Assembly plenary session.

Excluding the Administrative City Construction Agency budget, the budget size increased by 29.7%, from 611.1 billion won this year to 792.7 billion won.

In particular, during the National Assembly review process, the Build-Transfer-Lease (BTL) project for establishing the Sejong campuses of Chungnam National University and Kongju National University was finally reflected as a government project.

Through this, the city secured construction costs of 32.7 billion won for Chungnam National University Sejong Campus and 28 billion won for Kongju National University Sejong Campus within the Sejong Joint Campus being developed on the 4-2 Living Zone site, and expects the schools to open smoothly in 2026.

The design competition cost (100 million won) for the new Sejong Police Agency building was also included in next year’s budget. The Sejong Police Agency is currently using leased private buildings.

Additionally, major project budgets such as ▲ Sejong?Anseong Expressway project cost (310.2 billion won) ▲ Happy City?Jochiwon connecting road construction cost (25.7 billion won) ▲ Smart specialization infrastructure establishment (1.8 billion won) ▲ Sejong Industrial Technology Complex development (6.4 billion won) ▲ Sejong Municipal Children’s Library construction cost (2 billion won) ▲ Sinheung-ri sports field development (3.6 billion won) were approved as originally proposed, which is expected to accelerate the city’s project implementation.

Lee Chun-hee, Mayor of Sejong City, said, “As a result of actively responding to the National Assembly budget review process, we secured the largest national budget since the city’s launch. Based on this, the city will make every effort to promote key administrative policies to complete the administrative capital and realize a self-sufficient city.”
