[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] LG Innotek announced on the 3rd that it was selected as a 'Community Contribution Recognized Company' by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2021.
The Community Contribution Recognition System is a program jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare to discover companies and institutions that have consistently carried out social contribution activities in the local community and recognize their achievements.
The LG Innotek business sites selected this time are four locations in Magok, Gumi, Gwangju, and Pyeongtaek. These business sites are promoting various programs under the themes of 'Junior Sonamu (Materials and Components Dream Tree) Classroom,' which supports youth education and welfare based on beneficiary focus, sustainability, and voluntary participation of employees, and 'Neighbor Plus,' which helps vulnerable groups achieve self-reliance.
In particular, the Gwangju site received the '2021 Community Contribution Minister of Health and Welfare Award.' Since 2007, this site has formed a one-company-one-village partnership with Goseo-myeon, Damyang-gun, and for 14 years has been carrying out kimchi sharing and goods support for neighbors in need. Since 2016, it has cooperated with Hanam-dong to provide daily necessities to local residents, including elderly living alone.
The Gumi site has donated over 2,500 children's books to the Gumi City Central Library and has been actively working to improve the education and welfare of children and youth by renovating local children's center facilities and supporting learning tablet PCs. Since 2018, the Magok site has collaborated with local welfare centers to carry out various goods support activities, delivering learning equipment, quarantine supplies, and daily necessities to a total of about 1,500 marginalized neighbors, including youth and people with disabilities, just this year. The Pyeongtaek site has, for 13 years since 2008, shared kimchi directly made by employees with elderly living alone and single-parent families, provided daily necessities to low-income families, and supported learning for children with disabilities.
Jo Baeksu, Head of Management Support, said, "With the goal of being a 'company that adds happiness through genuine nurturing and sharing,' we have made multifaceted efforts to grow together with the local community," adding, "We will actively discover and continuously practice social contribution activities that provide practical help to the community."
Meanwhile, LG Innotek is strengthening ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management for sustainable business. In March, it signed an agreement with the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation to expand the 'Junior Sonamu Classroom' activities and sponsored 650 million KRW annually. LG Innotek also announced that a total of about 900 employees participated in non-face-to-face volunteer work this year, supporting items such as companion plant kits, children's safety umbrellas, and pop-up books.
