[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City recently held the ‘2nd Extraordinary Meeting’ of the Hangeul Love Committee to listen to the opinions of citizens and experts regarding the creation of the Hangeul Love font, the Hangeul Love Street project, and the renaming of the Complex Community Center, the city announced on the 3rd.
The Hangeul Love Committee was launched last July under the ‘Sejong City Hangeul Love Support Ordinance’ to advise and deliberate on the use, development, and preservation of Hangeul and the Korean language, as well as the refinement of administrative terminology.
The 2nd extraordinary meeting was held as a report on the production of the ‘Hangeul Love font’ and the results of a policy study for the creation of the ‘Hangeul Love Street.’
The Hangeul Love font discussed at the meeting was developed based on one of the handwritten samples by learners at ‘Sejong Geulkkot Seodang,’ and its official name will be decided through a public contest on the city hall website until the 8th.
At the meeting, a report and consultation were also conducted on the results of the ‘Policy Study for the Creation of Hangeul Love Street,’ carried out by the Daejeon Sejong Institute at the city’s request.
In particular, stakeholders including residents of Hansol-dong, the project site for the Hangeul Love Street, participated in the meeting to exchange opinions with the Sejong Research Office of the Daejeon Sejong Institute and members of the Hangeul Love Committee.
Additionally, the meeting included a report on the progress of Hangeul promotion tasks and a consultation on the necessity and alternatives for simplifying the name of the ‘Complex Community Center.’
Lee Chun-hee, Mayor of Sejong City, said, “The Hangeul Love Committee plays a role in reflecting citizens’ voices in discovering and promoting policies and projects for Sejong as a city that loves Hangeul. The city will continue to strive to create a Hangeul Love City Sejong with the participation of citizens centered on the Hangeul Love Committee.”
