COVID-19, 4,057 Cases Confirmed Nationwide by 9 PM... "Approaching 5,000 Cases on the 3rd"

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] As of 9 PM on the 2nd, the number of new COVID-19 cases reached the 4,000 range.

According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on this day, a total of 4,057 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.

This is the second highest number recorded for the same time frame at 9 PM. The highest record was 4,317 cases at 9 PM the previous day, which is 260 more than today.

Since there is still time until midnight when the count is finalized, the number of new confirmed cases announced at midnight on the 3rd is expected to increase further, approaching 5,000.

The nationwide new confirmed cases announced as of midnight on the 2nd were 5,266, marking an all-time high.

Looking at the regions with confirmed cases by 9 PM, the metropolitan area accounted for 3,110 cases (76.7%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 947 cases (23.3%).

By city and province, the numbers are as follows: Seoul 1,870, Gyeonggi 933, Incheon 307, Chungnam 156, Busan 131, Daegu 96, Gyeongbuk 82, Gangwon 80, Gyeongnam 78, Chungbuk 75, Daejeon 63, Jeonbuk 61, Gwangju 45, Jeonnam 35, Ulsan 18, Jeju 20, and Sejong 7.

All 17 cities and provinces reported confirmed cases.

The domestic 4th wave, which began in early July, has continued for nearly five months.

The number of new confirmed cases over the past week from the 26th of last month were 3,896 → 4,067 → 3,925 → 3,308 → 3,032 → 5,123 → 5,266 per day, averaging 4,088 cases daily. Excluding imported cases, the average daily number of locally transmitted confirmed cases is approximately 4,059.
