[Asia Economy Reporter Kim So-young] The story of a victim's sister who caught a hit-and-run motorbike driver through a secondhand trading platform has been revealed, drawing attention.
According to a report by Yonhap News on the 2nd, Mr. A, who lives in Iksan City, Jeonbuk, was hit by a motorbike while crossing a crosswalk around 6:30 p.m. on the 16th of last month.
At the time, people gathered around Mr. A, who had lost consciousness, but the perpetrator briefly left the scene saying he needed to make a phone call and did not return. The motorbike and helmet were left on the road.
As a result of the accident, Mr. A suffered injuries including a fractured finger and was hospitalized with an estimated recovery period of four weeks.
Although a police investigation began, Mr. A's sister, Ms. B, took it upon herself to find the hit-and-run driver when the suspect was not quickly caught.
Ms. B recalled the helmet and motorbike left behind by the perpetrator who fled the scene in a hurry. She considered the possibility that the perpetrator had purchased the helmet through a secondhand transaction and searched for the helmet on the secondhand trading platform "Danggeun Market."
Ms. B found a transaction record showing the exact same helmet was sold in May and contacted the seller to find out the buyer's ID.

Ms. B also posted a message saying, "I am trying to catch the hit-and-run driver. If anyone has seen this motorbike on Danggeun Market, please contact me," along with photos of the scene. Shortly after, she received a message from a user saying, "I have contacted the person who previously posted the motorbike for sale," and as a result, it was confirmed that the helmet buyer and the motorbike seller had the same Danggeun Market ID.
Ms. B sent a message to the found ID pretending to want to trade goods. The other party asked, "Are you the person who was hit in the hit-and-run accident?" and reportedly confessed to the crime.
Ms. B told Yonhap News, "The culprit was a minor, and it seems he was monitoring the post I made about finding the hit-and-run driver," adding, "He said he ran away because he was scared at the time of the accident." Ms. B also said, "Although I caught the hit-and-run driver myself, I feel both happy and upset because no settlement has been reached with the perpetrator's side."
