Construction of Agricultural Technology Center Building and Integrated Food Support Center

Geoje City, Gyeongnam Province, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Comprehensive Scientific Farming Facility Town project on the 1st.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 1st, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction project of the Scientific Farming Comprehensive Facility Town in Geoje-si, Gyeongnam.

The ceremony was attended by Mayor Byeon Gwang-yong, Jo Gil-hwan, Director of Technical Support at Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Technology Institute, Ok Young-moon, Chairman of Geoje City Council, along with city council members, education officers, heads of Nonghyup branches, and leaders of agricultural organizations, totaling 99 participants.

The Scientific Farming Comprehensive Facility Town construction project involves building the Geoje Agricultural Technology Center building and the Food Integrated Support Center, with a total project cost of 24.1 billion KRW, including 5.7 billion KRW in national funds and 4.4 billion KRW in provincial funds.

The facility will be constructed on a 29,401㎡ site in Seojeong-ri, Geoje-myeon, with a total building area of 7,444㎡ over two floors, consisting of four buildings.

The current Agricultural Technology Center was established in 1989 and has served agricultural administration and education for 30 years; however, due to limitations in functionality and its separation from the Agricultural Development Institute, it relocated its building in 2017 with national funding support from the Rural Development Administration.

The Food Integrated Support Center, supported by provincial funds from Gyeongsangnam-do, will include packaging rooms, low-temperature storage facilities, freezing and refrigeration, and shipping waiting rooms, and will supply food products made from locally produced agricultural products to schools, public institutions, and social welfare facilities.

The city expects that the establishment of the facility town will strengthen the competitiveness of local agriculture and create a virtuous cycle economy in the region.

Mayor Byeon stated, “Once the Scientific Farming Comprehensive Facility Town is established, it will play a central role in the new leap forward of our city’s agriculture and rural areas, alongside existing facilities such as Geoje Botanical Garden and Supsoli Park.”
