SK Hynix Appoints President in His 40s

SK Group Vice Chairmen Kim Jun and Jang Donghyun Promoted Kim Jun, President and CEO of SK Innovation

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] SK Group produced two additional vice chairmen in the 2022 executive personnel appointments, following last year. With Kim Jun, President and CEO of SK Innovation, and Jang Donghyun, President of SK Inc., promoted to vice chairmen, SK Group has solidified its professional management vice chairman system. The personnel policy of appointing young presidents in their mid-40s, breaking the seniority order, continued as it did last year.

On the morning of the 2nd, each affiliate of SK Group finalized and announced the executive personnel appointments and organizational restructuring decisions made at their board meetings.

The notable feature of this personnel appointment is the addition of Presidents Kim and Jang to the vice chairman group. In last year’s appointments, Park Jung-ho, President of SK Telecom, and Yoo Jung-joon, President of SK E&S, were each promoted to vice chairmen. Among the owner family, Choi Jae-won, Senior Vice Chairman of SK Group, and Choi Chang-won, Vice Chairman of SK Discovery, are actively supporting Chairman Choi Tae-won in business operations.

Earlier, in September, Seo Jin-woo, Chairman of the SK Supex Council Talent Development Committee, was promoted to vice chairman in charge of China business. Including him, SK Group’s main affiliates and overseas businesses will be led by professional management vice chairmen. Vice Chairman Yoo has newly taken charge of North American business. It is known that the organizational structure is in the final stages, and together with Vice Chairman Seo, who is responsible for China, SK Group’s overseas business control tower will operate on a two-track system.

SK Group also appointed No Jong-won, born in 1975 and Vice President of SK Hynix, as president. This ties the record for the youngest president ever established after Chairman Choi’s inauguration, along with Representative Director Chu Hyung-wook, who was promoted to president of SK E&S last year. At SKC, Park Won-cheol, Head of New Business Team at SK Supex Council (Vice President), was appointed as the new president.
