[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Naver is establishing a dedicated research space for the ‘Seoul National University-Naver Hyperscale AI Center (SNU-NAVER Hyperscale AI Center)’ and is intensifying industry-academia collaboration.
On the 1st, Naver opened a research space within the Seoul National University AI Institute and held a plaque ceremony. Attending from Seoul National University were Vice President of Research Choi Haecheon, Dean of the College of Engineering Lee Byungho, Director of the AI Institute Jang Byungtak, and Deputy Director of the AI Institute Jeon Byunggong. From Naver, CEO of Clova CIC Jeong Seokgeun, Head of AI Lab Ha Jungwoo, and Lead of Clova CIC Seong Nakho attended.
Earlier, Naver signed an agreement with Seoul National University in May for joint research on hyperscale AI. Seoul National University participated in research collaboration with Naver to solve various challenges related to hyperscale AI, and some of the resulting papers were presented at 'NeurIPS 2021,' the world’s most prestigious machine learning conference.
Since last fall semester, Naver researchers Yoon Sangdoo and Yoo Youngjun have been appointed as adjunct professors at Seoul National University, strengthening industry-academia cooperation and actively fostering AI talent. As a result of this collaboration, more than 50 students have participated in industry-academia projects, with 10 of them joining Naver as interns.
CEO Jeong said, "As much as the infinite possibilities of hyperscale AI, there are many challenges to overcome for global advancement. Through industry-academia collaboration with Seoul National University, we hope to solve meaningful problems together and grow alongside capable AI talents."

Meanwhile, Naver is conducting hyperscale AI industry-academia collaboration not only with Seoul National University but also by establishing joint research centers with various prestigious domestic and international research institutions such as KAIST, Vietnam HUS, and the University of T?bingen in Germany.
