[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) announced on the 2nd that it recently signed a business agreement with SK Telecom, Kakao Mobility, and LG CNS to cooperate on the 'Jamsil Sports·MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) Complex Space Development Private Investment Project.'

KITA explained that through the business agreement with the three companies, each possessing world-class technology in various ICT fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Metaverse (Extended Virtual World), next-generation mobility, and information and communication technology, it plans to apply various cutting-edge technologies suitable for each facility and service in the Jamsil Sports·MICE Complex Space Development Private Investment Project, for which it submitted a proposal as the lead consortium on the 29th of last month.

Additionally, KITA added that by integrating the systematic systems and know-how it has built over the past 30 years operating the Trade Center in Samseong-dong, Seoul, it plans to develop the Jamsil Sports·MICE Complex Space into a future-oriented convention landmark.

The ICT fields that the KITA consortium will incorporate into the Jamsil Sports·MICE Complex Space include ▲building a smart logistics system using AI logistics robots ▲realizing a future mobility leading city by introducing Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and autonomous shuttles ▲establishing an integrated control and operation system based on AI and big data ▲hosting hybrid exhibitions combining the Metaverse and Internet of Things (IoT) based on 5G infrastructure ▲developing an integrated usage application for all facilities.

A KITA official stated, "We plan to create a space where not only Seoul citizens but visitors from around the world can experience and feel advanced future technologies firsthand."

Meanwhile, MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions, referring to the exhibition and fair convergence industry.

The Jamsil MICE Complex Space project involves transforming approximately 350,000㎡ of land around the Jamsil Sports Complex into exhibition and convention facilities (about 120,000㎡), a baseball stadium (about 35,000 seats), a multi-purpose sports facility (about 11,000 seats), a hotel (about 900 rooms), cultural and commercial facilities, and office facilities by 2029. The KITA consortium and the Hanwha consortium each submitted phase 2 project proposals to the Seoul Metropolitan Government last month and are competing for the contract.
