[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Voices are rising to publicly disclose the identities of 69 foreign international students who sexually assaulted a middle school girl over several months. The police have currently imposed a travel ban on these students and are conducting an investigation.

On the 1st, a petition titled "Strong Punishment and Public Disclosure of Identities of 69 Foreign International Students at XX University Involved in Group Sexual Assault of a Middle School Girl" was posted on the Blue House National Petition Board.

The petitioner shared articles covering the incident and demanded, "After strong punishment, please disclose the identities of the international students." As of 9:30 a.m. on the 2nd, one day after posting, the petition had received over 10,000 signatures.

The case was reported on the 29th of last month through "G1 Broadcasting." According to the broadcast, the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency's International Crime Investigation Team recently booked a total of 69 current students and graduates of local universities on charges of statutory rape and sexual bribery. Statutory rape refers to sexual intercourse with a minor below the age of consent, which is treated as sexual assault and punishable by law.

These university students are accused of repeatedly calling middle school student A over 100 times since December last year and engaging in sexual relations. They approached A through social networking services (SNS) after hearing rumors circulating among groups of international students. They sent messages such as "What are you doing?", "Shall I buy you something delicious?", and "Do you want to come over to my house?" to lure her and then engaged in sexual relations.

The victimization of A was revealed in August when she was consulting with her homeroom teacher at school. Based on A's testimony, the police conducted a thorough investigation of foreign international students and graduates enrolled at the university and identified the suspects.

The police have imposed a travel ban on the suspects and are currently investigating the specific circumstances of the incident.
