[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 2nd that its video advertisement themed on Jeju Island's next-generation intelligent transportation system (C-ITS) won the grand prize in the public interest category at the '2021 Korea Advertising Awards.'
Now in its 28th year, the Korea Advertising Awards is the most prestigious ceremony in the country that reviews the year's advertisements. This year, the awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on the 3rd at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, where works selected through preliminary and final judging by a panel of 80 advertising experts will be awarded.
The advertisement by KT that won the grand prize depicted a scenario applying the 'emergency vehicle priority signal service,' a representative technology of Jeju C-ITS, which was completed in collaboration with Jeju Island last March. It immersively portrayed the control of traffic signals along the route of an ambulance in a situation where a mother is about to give birth, saving a precious life. The video received a positive response, surpassing 16 million views on YouTube.
This service is a signal control system that, when an ambulance transports a critical patient to the hospital, tracks the vehicle's exact location using Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) technology at the Jeju Traffic Information Center and allows the emergency vehicle to receive priority signals via V2X communication, enabling it to pass through intersections without stopping, thus preserving the golden time for emergency patients.
In addition to the next-generation transportation system established in Jeju Island, KT is laying the foundation for creating a smart city by introducing a real-time traffic analysis system and facilitating smooth vehicle flow.
Kim Chae-hee, Head of KT's Strategic Planning Office, said, "We are honored that our efforts to realistically showcase the smart digital road created by KT through the Jeju C-ITS advertisement have been well received," adding, "We will continue to demonstrate various useful applications of DigiCo KT's platform services such as AI, robotics, and mobility."
