[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Kakao announced on the 2nd that it will appoint Professor Hwang Hee of Bundang Seoul National University Hospital as the head of the Healthcare CIC (Company-In-Company), which will open on the 6th.
The Healthcare CIC plans to leverage Kakao's technology, digital capabilities, and user service experience to develop lifecycle health management and smart medical digital healthcare businesses primarily in the global market. It will also focus on building a digital healthcare ecosystem by collaborating with startups and institutions related to digital healthcare.
Newly appointed CEO Hwang is a pediatric specialist who has served as a professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Brain Neuro Center at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital and as vice president of EasyCareTech, a healthcare specialized company invested in by Seoul National University Hospital. In 2019, he was selected as one of the 50 Digital Healthcare Innovation Leaders by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) in the United States, and in 2016, he was inducted into the Healthcare IT Hall of Fame of the Asia Pacific Association for Medical Informatics. He also has experience leading digital hospital innovation projects with more than 20 overseas hospitals.
CEO Hwang stated, "Based on the experience accumulated in the medical and healthcare fields, I will do my best to enable Kakao to innovate in the digital healthcare sector in the global market."
