[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 2nd that it has signed a vehicle supply contract for people with disabilities with the Social Solidarity Fund Investment Authority, an agency under the Libyan Ministry of Social Welfare.
According to this contract, Hyundai will supply a total of 2,300 vehicles to disabled victims of the Libyan civil war next year, including 800 Tucson units, 700 Avante (local name Elantra) units, and 800 Creta units.
The Social Solidarity Fund Investment Authority is a public fund management agency established for the welfare of socially vulnerable groups and people with disabilities suffering from the Libyan civil war. As part of a vehicle purchase support program for disabled victims of the civil war, it provides 50% support for the vehicle purchase price.
Hyundai vehicles supplied for people with disabilities will be equipped with hand controllers that allow acceleration and brake pedals to be operated by hand, considering cases of lower limb disabilities, as well as steering devices for drivers who need to operate the steering wheel with one hand.
In addition, Hyundai has decided to donate two ambulances to the Libyan government for the emergency transport of COVID-19 patients. Jung Bang-seon, Head of Hyundai Motor’s Asia-Middle East Regional Headquarters, stated, "This partnership with the Libyan government will be an important milestone in the African market," and added, "Through this cooperation, we will continue to strive so that everyone in Libya can enjoy freedom of movement."
