Basketball and Volleyball Courts to Be Built on the Site of Danginri Thermal Power Plant

Basketball and Volleyball Courts to Be Built on the Site of Danginri Thermal Power Plant Project site within the site of Danginri Thermal Power Plant

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Kim] A complex sports facility will be built on the site of the Danginri Thermal Power Plant in Mapo-gu, Seoul.

Seoul City announced on the 2nd that it held the "16th Urban Planning Committee" the day before and approved the urban planning facility (sports facility) decision for the construction of a complex sports facility on the site of the Danginri Thermal Power Plant in Mapo-gu.

Accordingly, a complex sports facility will be built on the existing Danginri Thermal Power Plant site in 1-30 Dangin-dong, Mapo-gu. The target site was excluded from the complex thermal power plant area during the cultural facility decision for the Danginri Cultural Space Creation Project in September last year. Mapo-gu has secured ownership this time, making it possible to build a four-story above-ground community sports facility with a total floor area of approximately 5,155.35㎡. As a result, international standard volleyball courts, badminton courts, basketball courts, and a swimming pool can be established.

The Dangin-dong sports facility is planned to be completed by June 2023, in line with the completion of the undergrounding project of the Seoul Complex Thermal Power Plant and the park development project above it, as well as the Danginri Cultural Space Creation Project.

Seoul City also conditionally approved the covering review for the installation of sports facilities within the Banpo Retention Basin. With this approval, part of the Banpo Retention Basin (2994.5㎡) at 15-2 Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, can be covered to build complex sports facilities such as a swimming pool and a multipurpose gymnasium. The Banpo Retention Basin, first designated in 1968, has been used as the Banpo Sports Complex since 2005 along with the retention basin facilities. The specific construction of sports facilities will be carried out by Seocho-gu.
