[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Market and Commercial District Promotion Agency will promote a specialization project targeting about 14 traditional markets and shopping districts next year.

On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province announced the plan for the "2022 Comprehensive Support Project for Revitalizing Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts in Gyeonggi Province" and is conducting a public contest until the 31st to select project targets early.

The specialization project aims to create a "shared commercial space" where various local entities can participate as sellers in places linked to traditional markets, alleyway commercial districts, and five-day markets, fostering community formation between merchants and residents and revitalizing commercial districts.

The project, with a scale of about 4.5 billion KRW matched by provincial and city/county funds, targets traditional markets and shopping districts under the "Special Act on the Promotion of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts." Priority will be given to those implementing projects linked to regional development plans or having established mid- to long-term development plans.

The contest categories are ▲ Gyeonggi-type Innovative Market (3 locations) ▲ Gyeonggi Excellent Market (1 location) ▲ Win-win Development Type Gyeonggi Shared Market (10 locations), with up to 1 billion KRW per location supported through city/county fund matching.

The "Gyeonggi-type Innovative Market" supports price and origin labeling enhancement, hygiene and cleanliness reinforcement, and content development within 500 million KRW per location, aiming to transform into a "traditional market people want to visit."

The "Gyeonggi Excellent Market" invests 1 billion KRW per location to provide customized comprehensive support across all areas including hardware, software, and humanware for market specialization and sustainable growth.

The "Win-win Development Type Gyeonggi Shared Market" utilizes idle spaces within traditional markets to establish shared market facilities and support various events, providing up to 200 million KRW per location.

To maximize the effects of these three projects, the province will also support dedicated professional personnel. Applications can be submitted through the Gyeonggi Province website or the Gyeongsangwon website.
