[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics Service announced on the 2nd that it will hold the "26th Service Skills Competition" at the Samsung Electronics CS Academy in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do.
This competition is a contest where service engineers who repair products compete in their expertise and technical skills, and it has been held since 1986. This year's competition, held over two days starting from the 1st, features 102 finalists who passed the regional preliminaries out of about 1,200 service engineers recommended from over 300 service centers nationwide.
The finals are divided into two fields: repair skills competition and service innovation case presentations, with a total of nine events. The repair skills competition consists of five events evaluating how quickly and accurately participants repair refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, mobile phones, etc., in environments where customers actually use the products. Recently, with the development of convergence and fusion among products such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), the evaluation focuses on whether repair engineers have multi-technical capabilities to diagnose and repair multiple products simultaneously by organically connecting various products.
The service innovation case presentations include four events where participants research and present equipment or technologies that improve repair efficiency. Cases adopted in the competition are applied in actual service sites to enhance not only repair efficiency but also work safety.
Eighteen participants who achieve excellent results in each event will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze prizes respectively, and the top five participants with the highest scores will receive the highest honors: the Minister of Employment and Labor Award and the Korea Association of the International Skills Olympics Chairman Award.
Along with the competition, Samsung Electronics Service will also hold an exhibition hall to present the direction and trends of technological development to its employees. The exhibition hall will showcase repair equipment developed by employees as well as an experience center where visitors can try smart technologies such as wearable robots and augmented reality (AR). In addition, to prevent COVID-19, major events will be broadcast online and a cyber exhibition hall will be operated.
A Samsung Electronics Service official said, "As products continue to develop, it is becoming increasingly important for engineers to secure technical capabilities," adding, "We will strive to provide services that exceed customer expectations based on our technical skills."
