Hyundai Motor's November US Sales Down 20%... Semiconductor Shortage Impact Continues

[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] As the supply shortage of automotive semiconductors continues, Hyundai Motor's sales volume in the United States last month significantly decreased compared to the previous year.


Hyundai Motor America (HMA) announced on the 1st (local time) that the number of vehicles sold last month was 44,345 units.


This figure represents a decrease of about 20% (10,826 units) compared to the same month last year.


Retail sales to general customers were 44,073 units, down 4%.


However, Hyundai stated that total sales of eco-friendly vehicles such as Nexo and Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid increased by 165%.


Randy Parker, Senior Vice President of Sales at Hyundai Motor, said, "Consumer demand remains high," and added, "We are optimistic about closing this year's sales performance strongly."


Kia's sales volume in the U.S. market last month was 45,318 units, down 5% compared to the same month last year. November sales were led by Telluride and Sorento.


Sales of hybrid and electric vehicles nearly doubled compared to last year.


Eric Watson, Vice President of Kia America (KA), emphasized, "The EV6 and Sportage Hybrid will be launched soon," and added, "Consumers' interest in Kia will continue."
