On the 2nd, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that a total of 57,295 vehicles across 8 models manufactured or imported and sold by Hyundai Motor Company, Korea GM, Kia, Korea Nissan, and Giheung International were found to have manufacturing defects and will be voluntarily recalled.
A total of 18,282 Ioniq Electric vehicles manufactured and sold by Hyundai Motor Company were found to have a safety mode software design error, causing intermittent acceleration delays when entering safety mode and a gradual increase in vehicle speed when the accelerator pedal is released, posing a risk of accidents.
A total of 17,406 Mighty vehicles were found to have brake hose assembly defects, where the hose collides with the shock absorber, causing damage and brake fluid leakage, resulting in the braking system not functioning properly.
The Ioniq Electric can be repaired free of charge at Hyundai Motor Company’s direct service centers and Blue Hands starting from the 7th, and the Mighty from the 9th.
A total of 10,608 Bolt electric vehicles imported and sold by Korea GM were found to have a risk of fire if two extremely minor manufacturing defects (anode tab damage and separator displacement) coexist in the high-voltage battery cells, prompting a recall.
These vehicles will first receive free repairs at Korea GM’s official service centers starting from the 3rd, and considering risk levels and parts supply, improved high-voltage batteries will be replaced sequentially from January next year.
A total of 10,383 Carnival vehicles manufactured and sold by Kia were found to have a manufacturing defect in the internal parts of the right automatic door lock, causing the door to close incompletely and potentially open while driving, posing a risk of injury to passengers. These vehicles have been receiving free repairs at Kia’s official service centers since today.
A total of 316 Murano Hybrid and one other model imported and sold by Korea Nissan were found to have a software design error in the hybrid control device, causing the safety mode to malfunction and the engine to possibly shut off in certain situations (when load occurs on the internal clutch bearing). Free repairs will be available at Korea Nissan’s official service centers starting from the 10th.
Lastly, a total of 300 Royal Enfield Interceptor and one other two-wheeled vehicle model imported and sold by Giheung International (including pre-sale units) were found to have an engine control device software setting error, causing the engine to possibly shut off during rapid acceleration and deceleration while idling or during low-speed driving. These vehicles have been receiving free repairs at official service centers since the previous day.
Regarding this recall, each manufacturer will notify vehicle owners of the recall procedures via mail and mobile text messages. If vehicle owners have repaired the defects at their own expense before the recall, they can apply for compensation for the repair costs from the manufacturer.
