[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju-cheol In] Miryang City in Gyeongnam announced on the 1st that admission and usage fees at the Miryang Arirang Space Observatory will be waived for visitors wearing hanbok.

At the end of last month, Miryang City amended the 'Miryang Arirang Space Observatory Installation and Operation Ordinance' to make the admission fee (4,000 KRW for adults, 2,000 KRW for students) and program usage fees free of charge.

Miryang City explained that the abolition of admission and usage fees for visitors wearing hanbok aims to spread the culture of wearing hanbok in daily life.

Starting from the end of October, Miryang City will designate every Wednesday as 'Hanbok Wearing Day,' with some city hall officials wearing hanbok to work, leading the spread of hanbok culture.

The Miryang Arirang Space Observatory opened in May last year. It features a 70 cm reflecting telescope controllable by voice recognition, various observation equipment, and exhibition experience facilities, attracting over 70,000 visitors to date.

Yang Gi-gyu, Director of the Tourism Promotion Division, said, “This project was implemented as part of the 2021 Hanbok Culture Regional Hub Support Project,” adding, “We will strive to make Miryang a central city for hanbok culture in the future.”
