"A Camp That Should Encompass Various Age Groups"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Recently recruited as a co-chair of the People Power Party's joint election campaign committee, Professor Lee Soo-jung, a criminal psychology expert, expressed her hope that Representative Lee, who went missing the day before (31st), would "come back."
On the 1st, Professor Lee responded "Of course" when asked on YTN Radio's 'Hwang Bo-seon's Start of a New Morning' whether she wanted Representative Lee to return. She then refrained from elaborating, saying, "I am not in a position to answer questions related to Representative Lee."
She said, "Personally, I believe the campaign should encompass a diverse group of people across various age groups," adding, "I thought I was filling a gap to take charge of one wing of that side."
Regarding Representative Lee's opposition to her recruitment, she explained, "I think he could have opposed (my recruitment). I am aware of the perspectives of young men. I have observed closely what kinds of anxieties or feelings of deprivation they have. Young men today find it difficult to enjoy the privileges that older generations of men once had in this society."
She added, "To maintain balance, policies that might cause dissatisfaction among young men should probably be considered. It is natural to have disagreements on that point."
Professor Lee stated, "As a criminologist, since 80% of victims of violent crimes are female, safety policies and victim protection policies are inherently difficult to be male-centered. If 80% of victims were male, I might have been in a position to propose more policies for men. I cannot fully understand those aspects. It seems to have caused some misunderstandings."
She continued, "Therefore, I thought opposition was entirely possible. However, since no clear intention was conveyed to me, I thought I could resolve it once I joined. I believe that if the representative returns, we can have various conversations and sufficiently reduce the gaps," she emphasized.
Meanwhile, regarding candidate Yoon's gender sensitivity, she said, "It seems there is still a long way to go," adding, "Given his life as a prosecutor, it is naturally difficult for him to have deep sensitivity in this area. Nevertheless, the reason I have hope is that he has lived a very just life. I highly appreciate that aspect and decided to support him."
