[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the morning of the 1st, President Moon Jae-in stated at a staff meeting that it is commendable to have formed an inter-ministerial task force (TF) to promptly establish a legal support system to address the issue of debt inheritance from parents to children and adolescents.
President Moon explained, "When local government civil complaint departments receive death reports, they guide the inheritance system and, if there is a possibility of debt inheritance, refer the case to the welfare department. The welfare department supports the preparation of legal service application forms and refers cases to the Korea Legal Aid Corporation, which provides legal services such as guidance and consultation on the inheritance system, and applications and litigation related to inheritance." He added, "I hope that related institutions and departments will cooperate organically to operate the system well so that minors are not unfairly burdened with inheriting their parents' debts."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice announced legal support measures for cooperation among related ministries to resolve the issue of debt inheritance from parents to children and adolescents at the Government Seoul Office Building on the same day.
