[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Yeo Seung-bae visited Vietnam and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, including the stabilization of supply chains such as urea water.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 1st, Deputy Minister Yeo held successive meetings with high-ranking officials in Vietnam, including Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Trung, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, and Truong Quang Hoai Nam, Vice Chairman of the Communist Party's External Relations Committee, on the 29th and 30th of last month (local time).
Deputy Minister Yeo mentioned the diversification of global supply chains, which has emerged as an economic security issue, and called for strengthening bilateral cooperation related to the stabilization of key raw material supply chains.
He also expressed gratitude for Vietnam's active cooperation amid the domestic shortage of urea water supply.
Earlier last month, when China restricted urea exports causing a shortage of urea water essential for operating diesel freight vehicles, emergency imports were made from countries including Vietnam.
The Vietnamese side expressed appreciation that Korea chose Vietnam as the first recipient country for COVID-19 vaccine donations and proposed exploring ways to reactivate human exchanges, including mutual recognition of vaccinations.
The situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the South China Sea was also brought to the discussion table. Vietnam requested support for the peaceful resolution of the South China Sea issue.
In response, our side emphasized the importance of peace and stability in the South China Sea and expressed a consistent position supporting respect for international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and freedom of navigation and overflight.
