Korea Electric Power Corporation and Related Agencies Collaborate with Dong Administrative Welfare Center for Intensive Protection

Gwangju Buk-gu, Intensive Identification and Support for Winter Welfare Crisis Households Until February Next Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Gwangju Buk-gu (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 1st that it will begin identifying and supporting welfare crisis households from this month to ensure the stability of low-income vulnerable groups during the winter season.

Accordingly, the district formed a crisis household identification task force consisting of 10 departments and 28 Dong Administrative Welfare Centers, designating the period until February next year as the intensive protection period to provide support to households and individuals facing crises such as unemployment and cold waves.

First, in cooperation with related organizations such as the Korea Electric Power Corporation Gwangju Jeonnam Regional Headquarters, they will proactively identify housing-vulnerable, single-person, and crisis-sign households with issues such as power or water outages, overdue electricity bills, and various insurance fee arrears.

Also, centered on the Dong Administrative Welfare Centers, counseling and home visits for care households will be activated, and the on-site welfare system will be strengthened by utilizing the ‘Hope Keeper Group,’ a human safety net composed of bankbook holders, volunteers, and local community security councils.

Buk-gu plans to continue customized follow-up management according to crisis situations such as heating, finance, and jobs, along with public support including basic living security benefits and emergency welfare for the identified vulnerable groups.

Mayor Moon said, “Community interest and participation are important for identifying and supporting crisis households during the winter season,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to realize inclusive welfare for vulnerable groups whose livelihoods are threatened by COVID-19 and to support the recovery of daily life.”
