Park Suhyun, Blue House Chief of Public Communication, "Mixed Concerns and Caution, Difficult to Predict Any Outcome"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House has indicated that if the number of Omicron cases increases, there may be a major adjustment in COVID-19 quarantine measures.
Park Soo-hyun, the Blue House Chief of Public Communication, said in an interview on the News Tomato YouTube channel 'No Young-hee's News Inside' on the 1st, "The first suspected case was discovered yesterday, and a confirmatory test is underway to determine if it is the Omicron variant. The results will be out tonight."
Park added, "We need to clarify the nature of Omicron, but since concerns and cautious opinions are mixed, it is difficult to make any assumptions."
Park said, "It is known to have high transmissibility, and the government is making thorough preparations for this," adding, "An emergency meeting on Omicron was held last night. Today, a task force from the foreign affairs authorities will be activated."
In particular, Park emphasized that if the number of Omicron cases increases, "consideration for a major adjustment of quarantine measures has already been completed." This implies that expansion of entry restrictions is being considered. Park also mentioned that since current PCR tests cannot immediately confirm Omicron cases, new reagents are being developed.
Regarding COVID-19 vaccination, Park added, "It is important to understand that the third dose is not optional but essential, and to actively participate."
