On the afternoon of the 1st, the National Police Agency and Shinhan Financial Group held an awards ceremony at the police headquarters in Migeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, selecting nine heroes protecting the ordinary economy, including Sergeant Jang, five police officers, and four ordinary citizens who prevented voice phishing damage.

Sergeant Jang was recognized for his achievement in arresting four individuals, including the mastermind of a first-generation telephone financial fraud organization that embezzled approximately 8 billion KRW since 2012, based in the Philippines. Also selected as awardees were Detective Lim Dong-hyun of the Investigation Division at Seoul Guro Police Station, Inspector Kim Jong-hak of the Criminal Division at Seoul Songpa Police Station, Inspector Lee Ki-hyung of the Investigation Division at Incheon Western Police Station, and Detective Shin Se-il of the Investigation Division at Seoul Seodaemun Police Station, all of whom achieved results in preventing voice phishing damage and apprehending key suspects.

Additionally, two bank security guards who suspiciously reported criminals repeatedly depositing large sums of cash via ATM, leading to the arrest of six and seven criminal organization members respectively, and two citizens?a taxi driver who detected and reported suspicious criminal activity during operation, enabling the arrest of suspects and prevention of crime damage?were also honored for their contributions to capturing criminal organization members.

Kim Chang-ryong, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, stated, "As telephone financial fraud methods continue to advance recently, it is more important than ever to prevent crimes before damage occurs," adding, "We will continue to expand cooperation with Shinhan Financial to eradicate livelihood financial crimes."

Cho Yong-byeong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, said, "I sincerely thank all nine heroes protecting the ordinary economy who received awards today, not only as financial professionals but also as citizens," and added, "To eradicate livelihood financial crimes beyond prevention, we will focus our capabilities as a financial institution within the public-private cooperation system and do our best toward Shinhan Financial Group’s vision of 'Easier, More Comfortable, and Newer Finance.'"

Meanwhile, the National Police Agency and Shinhan Financial Group signed a business agreement in July this year to eradicate livelihood financial crimes, agreeing to select and reward individuals who prevent damage or apprehend criminals related to livelihood financial crimes quarterly. Selected citizens and police officers will receive certificates of appreciation, commendations from the National Police Agency Commissioner, and prize money of 3 million KRW per person.
