[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] On the 30th of last month, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, conducted multifaceted smart farm-related education for participants on how to operate smart greenhouses and support policies through a linkage with the digital competency enhancement education project promoted by Jeollanam-do at the ‘Yeongam Seoul Farm.’

According to the county on the 1st, in June, aiming to respond to global warming, a climate change response demonstration test field equipped with an automatic environmental control system was established within Yeongam Seoul Farm, covering two buildings with a total area of 945.28㎡. Currently, test cultivation of domestic banana and papaya varieties is underway in the demonstration field.

Smart farms utilize information and communication technology (ICT) to remotely monitor crop growth environments without time and space constraints and manage them in optimal conditions. This science-based agricultural method is expected to increase agricultural product yields, reduce labor hours, enhance agricultural competitiveness, and lead the future agricultural industry.

Jeollanam-do plans to continuously provide educational opportunities by opening a special smart farm program within the digital competency enhancement education, allowing not only returnees to farming and rural residents but also any residents interested in smart farms to easily receive education.
