7 E-commerce Specialized Universities and U-Commerce Competition Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kim Hak-do, hereinafter referred to as SBC) announced on the 30th that it held the U-Commerce Competition (hereinafter UCC) with seven e-commerce specialized universities at the Seoul Garden Hotel in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Since last year, SBC has designated seven bases as e-commerce specialized universities and has been nurturing online export experts. This year, education was provided to about 350 people. They matched students with language skills and the latest marketing capabilities with local small and medium enterprises to conduct sales practice using global platforms.
UCC is a venue to share the achievements of e-commerce specialized universities, and this year marked its second event. SBC held this event simultaneously in a metaverse space and offline venues to meet the expectations of MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z) students, who are becoming the main force in the global e-commerce market.
On the day, eight teams that advanced to the finals presented the results of one year of e-commerce sales practice. SBC selected the winners by combining the results of a pre-public vote, university cheering scores in the metaverse space, and expert judging of on-site presentations. The grand prize was awarded to Korea University’s K-Bridge team (Hwang Chae-rim, Byun Mi-ryeong, Kim Hyun-jun, Oh Hyun-ji, Lee Soo-yeon). K-Bridge was highly evaluated for generating export results totaling 106 million KRW by selling products of the local SME Korea Sauce through e-commerce platforms such as Qoo10 and Shopee, and even securing export contracts with Japanese companies via LinkedIn.
SBC plans to continuously produce young sellers and influencers by linking online export businesses to graduates of e-commerce specialized universities. Chairman Kim Hak-do said, "The global e-commerce market is rapidly reorganizing around media commerce led by the MZ generation," adding, "SBC will discover and nurture young sellers and influencers and actively utilize live commerce platforms to expand the online direct export performance of small and medium ventures."
